Funxtion’s digital solutions ignite member engagement at Impulse

The pandemic turbo-charged the fitness industry’s entry into a new digital era so it could meet customers’ remote needs.

Impulse, a chain of training centres in Norway, was at the forefront of the hybrid movement, turning analogue spaces into connected digital ecosystems that serve members wherever they are located. Thanks to a partnership with Funxtion, digital fitness solutions pioneers, the forward-thinking brand revolutionised its member experience, creating a wraparound digital solution that keeps members connected both inside and outside of their facilities, 24/7.

This partnership launched with Impulse Online, a white label digital training app from Funxtion which provided a comprehensive platform delivering a wide array of fitness content anywhere, anytime. The success of this implementation, initially at a crucial time during the pandemic, and continued afterwards, also provides ‘always on’ digital coaching within Impulse clubs via both Funxtion multi-screen and single-screen systems.

Jamie Hellier, Digital member engagement manager & Team Leader Personal Training, Impulse, explains: “We wanted to partner with a company that would deliver a product of the very highest level of functionality, provide an unmatched visual experience for our members that sets our offer apart from local and national competition and showcases exercise demonstrations that are technically perfect in their execution. Funxtion’s multifaceted solutions enables us to tick every one of these boxes.”

“By implementing the Funxtion in-gym solution, we are also able to blend the digital with the physical by introducing visually engaging workout zones including ‘Core & Flex’ and a ‘Functional Zone’. These zones perfectly fuse the buzz of physical workouts with high-quality digital coaching to create a training environment aligned to goal achievement and satisfaction that keeps members wanting to return for more.

Hellier continues: “Since we created zoned areas within the gym using the Funxtion in-club solution, we have seen a digital workout usage surge, leaping to 253% more digital workouts in 2024 than in 2023. We anticipate that this will continue to rise as the group exercise timetable is linked up to our new member app.”

The multi-screen solutions enable small groups of people to train together whilst the single-screens provide a popular holistic experience in the form of recovery stations, with equipment and content focused on mobility, stretch and yoga.

This month, using Funxtion’s multi-screen station solutions, Impulse takes a ground-breaking leap forward with the launch of Norway’s first fully digital Group Exercise schedule at its site in Nardobakken. This innovative approach caters to a wide audience, from those who are just starting their fitness journey through to seasoned and experienced members.

Speaking of the integration, Danny Woods, Chief Commercial Officer, Funxtion, says: “The success of our partnership with Impulse is testament to the creative thinking of its team and the power of innovation within the fitness industry. Through a combination of our digital solutions, tailored content and a keen eye for design, they have created an unmatched member journey and experience that has rocketed their member engagement and workout usage both in and outside the bricks-and-mortar of the clubs.”
